Baby Sleep Training: What Worked for Us

After months of sleepless nights, we finally found a sleep training method that worked. Here’s our honest experience and what we learned along the way.

Our Situation

At 6 months, our daughter Emma was waking up 5-6 times per night. We were exhausted and knew something had to change, but we wanted a gentle approach.

The Method We Chose

We opted for the “pick up/put down” method rather than cry-it-out. It took longer (about 3 weeks) but felt right for our family.

What We Did

  1. Established a bedtime routine: Bath, massage, story, lullaby – same order every night at 7:30 PM
  2. Created the right environment: Dark room, white noise machine, comfortable temperature (18-20°C)
  3. Put her down drowsy but awake: This was the hardest part but most important
  4. Responded consistently: When she cried, we picked her up until calm, then put her down again

The Results

By week 3, Emma was sleeping 11-hour stretches. Not every night is perfect, but the improvement has been life-changing.

Important Notes

What worked for us may not work for you. Consult your pediatrician before starting any sleep training, especially if your baby has health issues. And remember – there’s no “right” way, only what works for your family.
